Johneen Manno has nearly 20 years of experience treating adjudicated and pre-adjudicated adults who were charged or convicted of sexual offenses, including those found guilty except insane. In addition to founding and clinically directing practices in Portland, Oregon, Ms. Manno worked in California universities with early adults who were facing on-campus sexual assault allegations. During her practice, Ms. Manno collected data on the effectiveness of treatment delivered, leading to the presentation and publication of research studies. One such study, the impact of family involvement in sex offender treatment completion, was presented at the 2009 ATSA Conference. Following that study, Ms. Manno and a colleague used her database to study the effect of timely passed full sexual history polygraphs in sex offender treatment on recidivism. That study was published in 2017 in the peer-reviewed Journal of Offender Rehabilitation and Journal of Sexual Aggression. Today, Ms. Manno provides training to a host of professionals focused on public safety, including university staff and law enforcement who supervise adjudicated sexual offenders when they are released into the community. She is now returning to her work with family involvement in mandated sex offender treatment, focusing on how to train and build competencies in family and support members who are proposed supervisors for a variety of community safety plans.
